29 June - 20 July: Tatjana Plitt (VIC)
Tatjana Plitt presents in 'Blaze' a series of photographs that recreate the imaginary world of 'Mills and Boon,' using real couples who strike a romantic pose in their own domestic environments. In this reconstruction of climactic and romantic moments, their gestures become performance, their personal belongings become props; artifice in the simulation of a shared, manufactured dream. Blaze weaves the contemporary Australian narratives of its subjects, with their real anxieties and desires, where the mundane and ridiculous collide with our romantic imagination.
A work from this series was recently in the Josephine Ulrich and Win Schubert Photography Award 2008 at the Gold Coast Arts Centre, and this is a great opportunity to see the rest of the series.
