In Glen O’Malley’s 'Hot Plate Heaven' the kitchen is the setting where a saucy story unfolds. There’s a coven at the oven in this little tuckshop of terrors, busily constructing an ambiguous but surely murderous narrative out of domestic space and ritual. Cinematic conventions are employed to invoke symbolic associations of women and food, the familiar, the domestic and the mundane take on a sinister tone.

This series of colour photographs were first shown at KickArts Contemporary Arts in Cairns during the second Queensland Festival of Photography earlier this year.
