Common Grounds by Henri van Noordenburg
The documentary project common ground is about everyday people and their stories. Stories that are special because they could be about all of us. The project consists of photography, installation and soundscapes.
On first viewing these people, they seem to be out of the ordinary. However when we look closer we recognise similarities.
The people photographed during the International Sportsmen Expo may look strange to an outsider (they may look like a Hollywood cliché) but they share the same profession or hobby, and if you put any social group together and view it from the outside you’ll get the same – that eerie feeling of the unfamiliar.
Viewed as individuals, the people in these photographs share common ground with those in stories from home.
From a personal point of view, I am interested in diversity, diversity in lifestyle and people. This body of work is about different lifestyles, which at first seem worlds apart but ultimately share values, beliefs, interests, aspirations, everyday activities and so on.
I believe that all people have their right to tell their story even if I do not agree with their values but their story is as important as any other story.
My value is to find the common ground between all people.
