'austrALIENation' by HolyGreenCow

This series looks at future history and questions what we take for granted as 'the truth'. On the surface, it examines Hollywood sensationalizing, misrepresenting and desensitising our understanding and responses to war and invasion with movies such as Star Wars. The works function satirically as a story within a story. A pastiche of images that could be stills from any movie from that genre, they reference real historical events using domestic kitsch, in a distinctly Australian setting, as substitutes for the actual horror.

Whilst principal photography was shot primarily on the iPhone, some of the series was montaged in Photoshop to emulate Hollywood's CGI surrealism. A departure in process from the They Came series, which was based on Sci-Fi films from the 50's, it deliberately uses such technology to emphasise the evolution of filmmaking and the way that stories are told.
