"The Moment of Change" by Yvonne Wright (QLD)
Statement
My workplace happens to be an unusual one where I have the opportunity to catch sight of serendipitous moments. When I see these happenings I simply and utterly indulge in them. I feel a need to merge within them, breath, taste, and ingest them, to become a part of their magical matrix before they disappear. I realized that to allow these infinitely changing and fascinating events go by without a trace would be a loss so I began taking photos. These delightful accidents occur so quickly, almost secretively that there is no opportunity to set the scene. There is no planned lighting, no steady tripod and a complete dependence on my observation and the cameras automatic focusing ability to record these creations. So to stay true to the accident I’ve left the images as close to the original photo as possible, only adapting to assimilate and synthesise order for the images to be shown as a collective.
Biography
In the late 1980’s I studied Ceramics at the University of Southern Queensland and in 2004, after an interesting era working as a ceramicist and artist, I graduated from Queensland University of Technology with a degree in Industrial Design. My somewhat peaceful environment has enabled my interest in creative thinking and practice especially in a transformative sense. It has led me to focus on the moment of change as the subject of many artistic ventures.
