The Rapture by Kate Kirby (QLD)

The Rapture is a modern gothic narrative, which explores the duel sensations of awe. Throughout my art practice I have been drawn towards producing work of an uncanny nature which unveils a disquieting strangeness. Through the use of narrative, I am able to create a duality which highlights the delicate push and pull of the tragic and beautiful. My photographs focus on the unsaid, trying to tap into the underlying tensions and struggles that lie within the narrative presented.

The Rapture is inspired by the biblical belief that the world will soon come to an end. This series embraces the underlying theme of awe, fear of the unknown and wonder of what is to come. This series conveys the silent struggle between the fear of reckless abandonment and the bliss of ultimate surrender.
