Carlos Santos was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia in 1986. At the age of 11 his family and him moved to Bogota. Growing up he had no interest in art or intention of becoming an artist until he took a photography class as an elective on his senior year in high school. He moved to Australia in 2007 and started a Bachelor of Photography at the Queensland College of Art (QCA), Griffith University.

'Shoeffiti'

This video is a part of a 3 video series called Brook St named after the street I lived in from February to July 2007. Hanging shoes from power lines has been done for many years and all over the world. This practice has always been related to gang turfs and drug dealers but also have been used to mark the place of death of a person.

In any case, Shoeffiti is another example of humans trying to modify their surroundings and leaving a mark in the landscape. I wanted to leave a mark in the street I used to live in not only to leave my mark there but to claim the suburban Australian landscape as my own, as my new home.
