John Goto
Biography
John Goto is recognized internationally for his work in the field of photo-digital art. Since 1992 he has used digital technology to reflect on European history and contemporary social and political events. His interest is in story telling through pictures, and he considers himself variously as a contemporary history painter, and a folk artist. Recent subjects include; The IDF’s invasion of the Gaza Strip; Jazz Migrants to London 1919-74; the Iraq War; Dance and National History; and Ukadia - a modern dystopia.
Goto has had solo London exhibitions at Tate Britain, the National Portrait Gallery and the Photographers’ Gallery, and has shown widely in Europe. He is represented by galleries in Paris, Munich and Seoul and is currently Professor of Fine Art at the University of Derby.
His website, bearing the subtitle ‘Liber Studiorum’ (book of the studio), charts his development as an artist and writer over the past four decades.
